One Heartland Staff

Patrick Kindler, Executive Director

Patrick Kindler

Executive Director

Patrick has been with One Heartland since May of 2006—and has served as the Executive Director since January, 2011. In his tenure as Executive Director, he has strengthened and grown our camps and programs by creating a culture of financial transparency and ensuring that we have the resources necessary to send as many kids to camp as possible. A camp and outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys spending time at his cabin in northern Minnesota.

Katie Donlin, Operations Manager

Katie Donlin

Operations Manager

Katie has been with One Heartland since December of 2010 and manages the One Heartland head office. She is a master juggler—handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, human resources and the donor database—among other tasks. She lives in Northeast Minneapolis with her husband and son, Thomas. When not working she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and gardening.

Michaela Krawec

Grants and Communications Coordinator

Michaela joined One Heartland in July 2019. As Grants and Communications Coordinator, Michaela writes grants and reports, creates communication materials, and manages social media for One Heartland. In her free time she enjoys going to concerts, yoga, shopping at vintage stores, and hanging out with her cats.

Tony Koecher

Facility Manager

Tony has been with One Heartland since May of 2001. As the facility manager at One Heartland’s flagship camp in Willow River, Minn., Tony takes care of the grounds, buildings and rentals, works with volunteer groups, and helps out with aspects of program. On top of all his normal tasks, he can often be found driving to camp on his days off to plow snow, mow the lawn or tend to the goats. He also is well known among our campers for his willingness to pass on much needed life skills. When Tony is not at camp, he enjoys finding collectibles, woodworking, and playing and watching sports with his two sons.

Stefanie Tywater-Christiansen

Stefanie Tywater-Christiansen

Development Director

Stefanie has been with One Heartland since November 2007. She started as the registration and travel manager before moving to her new role as development director. Stefanie oversees the development initiatives of the organization including donor relationships, events, mailings, corporate relationships, volunteers and grants. When she’s not at work, Stefanie can be found with her nose in a book. She lives south of the Twin Cities with her husband, their dog, Leia, and their two children, Cooper and Quinn, who love impromptu dance parties in their living room.

Phoebe Applegate

Program Assistant

Phoebe, better known at camp as “Apples”, began as a summer camp counselor at One Heartland in 2016. After a few summers volunteering at camp, she began working as the Program Assistant. She is from Memphis, TN and spent two years serving in a national service program, AmeriCorps NCCC, where she first heard about One Heartland. In her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling. Two unique facts about her are that she loves vegetables and is deaf in her right ear.

Katie Bartels

Program Director

Katie joined One Heartland in December 2019 after 9 years as a camp and youth program professional with other organizations.  As Program Director, they oversee our program department and all our camp programs. Katie lives in Saint Paul with their partner Kayla and three cats and in their free time enjoys spending time with family, hiking, and exploring new places. Katie’s favorite camp activity is canoeing.

Carson Hearn

Summer Camp Coordinator

Carson joined the One Heartland team in January 2020, coming on board as the Summer Camp Coordinator. His background lies deeply rooted in the benefits of Outdoor Education, utilizing debriefing and processing techniques to teach others empathy, resiliency, and self-awareness. He works closely with the Program Director to ensure successful camp programs. After previously working with both YMCA and JCC camps, he now lives in Minneapolis with his wife, cat, and bearded dragon Chip (a fully-grown rescue who accompanies him on all road trips). In his free time, he enjoys rock climbing, hiking, yoga, and playing with his juggling pins/devil sticks.

Scott Myers

Development Officer

Scott joined One Heartland November 2019 as our Development Officer. He has an extensive background in sales and project management. He will be heading up our new event Over The Edge. Scott has been a member of our community for many years, joining us at our Annual Gala every year as well as volunteering during other One Heartland events. He knows many of our supporters and already has relationships that he can help grow and expand to continue spreading the word about the programs we offer and how impactful they are to the young people who attend.

Allison Jones

Registration and Travel Manager

Allison joined One Heartland in January 2020 as the Registration and Travel Manager. Her job is to make sure that anyone who wants to go to camp can get there – she supports campers through the process from starting an application all the way to arriving at camp. Allison attended Camp True Colors in 2011 and is grateful to be able to pass on the experience of camp to the next generation. When she’s not at work, Allison enjoys cooking, making music, and lavishing affection on her cat.

Jason Misik

Facilities Director

Jason is new to the organization as of 2020. He’s excited to be a part of the team at One Heartland. Jason manages and oversees the  camp facilities, the kitchen and maintenance staff, and is in charge of camp rentals. He lives on Medicine Creek Farm a few miles south of camp with his wife, Hannah and his son, Harvey. They raise grass fed beef, lamb and pastured pork. Jason plays obscure honky tonk music from the 50’s and 60’s. He enjoys hiking, skiing and mushroom hunting.
